How to be involved

LGinsight is a voluntary organisation drawing in activity from across the public sector. The more active it’s members are the more it will achieve. It is particularly designed to join up researchers who may have similar research questions but limited individual budgets. Joint working should deliver greater insight than working on your own and hopefully with a cost saving. We think there are four potential levels of activity for individuals.  Which one do you think you’ll want to start off at?

  • Level 1: Visitor – As well as hopefully media and other coverage you can follow the activities of LGinsight through:
  1. Our website: www.lgcomms.org.uk/LGinsight.html
  2. Our Community of Practice page: http://www.communities.idea.gov.uk/c/7723643/home.do
  3. Our Twitter page @LGinsight
  • Level 2: Member – You can become a registered member of LGinsight and receive our email newsletter, free entry to events and information about other activities
  • Level 3: Active Member – You could contribute through our Community of Practice or Twitter pages, highlighting research of interest and your views on certain topics.  This could include asking other LGinsight members for help on an issue you are facing or suggest a Commission of Enquiry
  • Level 4: Leading Member – Why not lead a Commission of Enquiry, arrange an event or take an active role on the Executive Committee.  We are flexible in how members want to take LGinsight forward and would especially welcome new ideas if people are then willing to take them forward with a little support! Please contact Neil Wholey nwholey@westminster.gov.uk if you wish to be a leading member of LGinsight.

We are looking to establish a core group of 20-30 researchers, from different authorities, who can help lead and develop LGinsight as leading members. The prelimary stage of development is your chance to get involved in this exciting new development. At the LGcommunications conference the formal structure, initial outputs and 2011/12 Commissions of Enquiry will be announced. If your council is up for the challenge contact us now.
